CANTERIAS is located on 63.8 hectares of untouched desert terrain, with beautiful views and uneven topography, on the hills north of Chihuahua city.   HLA was in charge of master planning the entire development in order to maintain as much as possible the beauty of the natural site: topography, existing rock outcrops, vegetation, and views.   742 private home lots were distributed in 6 “privadas”. A monumental Pórtico acces-threshold,  a sport club-house, a sales office building and a Lifestyle Center f about 60,000 m2 were designed to complement the residences.  The concept for the materiality and architecture was taken from the local prehispanic cultures and archeological site  of “casas grandes”,  and from the natural topography of the site.  Native vegetation, stormwater harvesting, and local stone from the nearby quarries are all integrated in the design to give it a strong local character with contemporary aesthetics.
