El Bajio is the last piece left of urban land to be developed in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, in the Municipality of Zapopan.

With more than 200 hectares, this area is located next to the natural reserve park of La Primavera Mountains, and it is the main stormwater recharge area in the city.    The municipal government of Zapopan invited HLA along with urban designers RDP from Mexico City to propose a master plan and land use plan for the entire area.   HLA was in charge to define the green system of interconnected parks, natural reserves, green infrastructure and urban landscape that would be the main factor  to shape the master plan.  Public transportation, bike lanes and pedestrian routes were introduced in the area.   Existing views towards the iconic mountains and other natural elements of reference which constitute the spirit of the place were identified and protected as cultural patrimony.
