For HLA, the visual component dominates the first impression that the user gets from its surrounding landscape (urban or natural), if this impression is highly positive and legible, it contributes to the acceptance, success and sustainability of this landscapes.

Each project in which HLA participates is chosen by its potential and aesthetic qualities, and it is faced as an artistic challenge that takes into consideration a balance between natural-environmental-social-technical and economical issues, but with a strong visual and creative focus.
HLA is a design studio offering services of Landscape Architecture,
Master Planning and Urban Identity for more than 20 years to both, the Private sector (Developers, Owners, Trusts, Entrepreneurs)and the Public sector (Urban Development agencies, Universities, Museums).

Interested in the development of iconic projects or innovative urban sectors, but always committed to leave a “legacy” and set a precedent in the way of doing and executing.
“People care for what they like. Beauty and harmony add emotional and aspirational value to land, places and buildings, which always translates into economic and cultural wealth for the community“.

Each project in which HLA participates, is carefully chosen by its physicall qualities and its developer’s values and way of thinking about the land.
This specially is fundamental to give the project the potential to become unique or iconic.

Once compromised with a project, Its design process represents a
creative challenge that is carefully solved taking into consideration:
natural, environmental, cultural, social and economic conditions,
but with a high focus on the visual or aesthetic component.
( always inspired in its local values – Genius locci - )

Why we love what we do

Landscape architecture is a vital field that intertwines environmental science, art, and engineering to create and manage outdoor spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It plays a crucial role in shaping the environment, enhancing the quality of life, and fostering sustainability. Below are some of the key aspects that underline the importance of landscape architecture. One of the foremost contributions of landscape architecture is its ability to foster ecological balance. Landscape architects are tasked with designing spaces that harmonize with local ecosystems, which often involves the preservation and restoration of native vegetation and the creation of habitats for local wildlife. This careful planning helps maintain biodiversity and supports ecological processes essential for the health of our planet.

We design spaces that support local ecosystems, ensuring a balance between human activities and natural processes. This includes the preservation of native vegetation, the creation of habitats for wildlife, and the implementation of green infrastructure.
The social and cultural benefits of landscape architecture are equally profound. Public spaces such as parks, plazas, and greenways are designed not only for aesthetic appeal but also to serve as vital community hubs. These spaces provide residents with areas for recreation, social interaction, and cultural events, thereby enhancing community cohesion and overall well-being.

Incorporating art and nature into any space

In addition, landscape architecture plays a significant role in historical preservation. Restoring and maintaining historical landscapes ensures that cultural heritage is preserved for future generations. This not only fosters a sense of community pride and identity but also educates the public about historical narratives and traditions.

Accessibility and inclusivity are also crucial considerations in landscape design. Well-designed landscapes ensure that public spaces are accessible to all, including individuals with disabilities. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can enjoy and benefit from these outdoor environments, promoting equity and social inclusion.

In terms of mental health, natural environments have been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Green spaces offer a tranquil retreat from the stresses of urban life, providing a setting for relaxation, contemplation, and mental rejuvenation. This access to nature can significantly improve mental health outcomes for urban residents.

Sustainable practices are also at the heart of modern landscape architecture. This includes the use of native plants that require less water and maintenance, water-efficient irrigation systems, and the incorporation of renewable materials. Sustainable landscape design reduces environmental impact and creates resilient landscapes that can withstand changing environmental conditions with minimal upkeep.
